Indiana's attorney general sent me this email today:
Your information has been identified as a part of the [GiveSendGo Freedom Convoy 2022] breach. The information breached included donors’ names, zip codes, emails, donation amounts, and donation messages. It became publicly available as a result of the hack, even if the donation was given anonymously. The investigation into this breach is ongoing.
If this data is used to dox, harass, or otherwise harm you, it may be considered identity deception under Indiana criminal law. If your information is used in an unauthorized manner, please click here to file a complaint with my office.
Below are some steps you may wish to take to make sure your identity stays secure:
- If applicable, change your password for the GiveSendGo website and any other websites where you may use the same or similar passwords.
- Contact your credit card company for the credit card used in your donation to either receive notifications of payments being made or to receive a new credit card number.
- Review your social media privacy settings to ensure the controls are at your preferred settings.
- Submit a credit security freeze free of charge with each of the three credit agencies. Placing a freeze on your credit reports can block an identity thief from opening a new account or obtaining credit in your name. More information about credit freezes can be found at indianaconsumer.com.
(emphasis added)
If you gave to GiveSendGo, consider taking the precautions above and file a complaint with your state's attorney general or equivalent in your country if you are doxxed or harassed.
If you're in Canada, where banks have frozen donors' accounts at the government's request, where police beat protestors and trampled them on horseback, all instead of just ending the mandates, consider closing your accounts and finding a new country.
