Flying

Maybe it was getting rid of a biofilm. Maybe it was the iodine in the kelp pills. Maybe it's the adrenal medicine. Or maybe (probably) I got rid of SIBO last year. Whatever it was (probably all of those), I've gotten my strength back. Over the weekend, I made headway on the garage, mowed the lawn--without stopping!--canned some pasta sauce, baked cookies, did the grocery shopping and got the laundry done.

I took six pounds of roma tomatoes from my garden and blanched, cooled, peeled and chopped them. They went into three-herb marinara, made with basil and oregano I picked in the dark and Italian parsley I went to two stores to buy, along with a dab of brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.  While it simmered, I took a shower and then baked a big batch of low-carb cookies. I filled the jars with the sauce and a tablespoon of lemon juice, put them in the water bath, then put the second batch of cookies in the oven. I got to bed at midnight.

This was after more scraping, puttying, and sanding, and finally priming the garage. My garage had exposed wood, epoxy, old paint, and three different colors of putty on it. The neighbors must be glad it's finally down to two colors. The box in front is mostly full of rotted lumber.

I finally felt exhausted at mid-afternoon today. 

I had way, way too much carbohydrate over the weekend, but oddly, none of the acid reflux or uneven energy or raging hunger later. Dr. Broda Barnes, who wrote a book on thyroid problems, said that thyroid normalization helps blood sugar regulation. I think he's onto something. However, I shouldn't push my luck. A moderate amount of carbohydrate, plus a little hydrocortisone, would be better on really busy days like last weekend.

30-second Fix for a Cracked Stick Blender

Use Mighty Fixit (if you still have some from 2012) or Rescue Tape (which looks like a similar product) to fix a cracked stick blender. After I fixed the attachment, I washed it in the sink and the tape held up. I also wrapped a knife handle several years ago, and it's been through thousands of washings.

Holiday Dinner Tip from Restaurant Pros: Limit the Menu

After watching some people online getting freaked out about trying to put on holiday dinners and getting overwhelmed to the point that they're thinking about canceling the whole thing, I thought I'd put out a restaurant tip that will help people put on a dinner with less aggravation. A big complaint among the frustrated home cooks I've seen is that family members are not contributing to the dinner. But a bigger problem I see is that their menu is just too big.
