Yoga for Diarrhea--Really

Sitting in another doctor's office this week, I wondered if I was on my way to a 17-year bout with diarrhea, like John Nicholson in The Meat Fix. I wondered if this doctor would have any fresh insights. I wondered why Community Health sent me to a clinic 30 miles away when I live in a city full of doctors.

This doctor saw that the lab never ran the lab test for ova and parasites as they were supposed to, so she opened the order for the test. After an examination and taking my symptoms, she suggested seeing a gastronenterologist. I countered with a request for a prescription for a gut zoomer test. She looked it up and was skeptical of it and admitted she wouldn't know know to read the results, but she did write out a prescription for it. No way was I going to get scoped and run the risk of ending up like Wolverine, who went in healthy for a colonoscopy and nearly died after getting perforated and needing an intestinal transplant. 

Later that day, my stomach felt like it was buzzing. It had felt that way a few times before, but I didn't pay much attention. This time, I wondered what pathogen made you buzz. None that I knew of--buzzing, in my experience, is caused by a pinched nerve. So I did some neck stretches and looked up videos on yoga for digestive problems. After following a couple of short videos with simple moves like child's pose and bridge, I made a special effort to relax my abdominal muscles. And that was it: my two-month bout with diarrhea was over.

As a bonus, the palpitations I've had on and off for years suddenly subsided. 

Did the probiotic with BNR17 have anything to do with this? I'm sure I had die-off reactions based on feeling worse after certain prebiotic foods, and then not being bothered by them. Maybe the BNR17 started a diarrhea feedback loop somehow. Maybe it made my pinched nerve worse, or it could all be a coincidence.

Holiday Dinner Tip from Restaurant Pros: Limit the Menu

After watching some people online getting freaked out about trying to put on holiday dinners and getting overwhelmed to the point that they're thinking about canceling the whole thing, I thought I'd put out a restaurant tip that will help people put on a dinner with less aggravation. If you're planning to travel by plane and you want to keep enjoying the benefits of l. reuteri yogurt, you might have gotten sticker shock from the price of l. reuteri probiotics. MyReuteri * costs $46 to $83 for 30 capsules, depending on the CFUs (colony-forming units, or the number of viable microorganisms).
