It's pretty bad when even conventional medicine thinks your blood sugar is high. I had lab tests done last week, as I do every year, and saw things were going in the wrong direction.

Uh-oh. |
Ideal blood sugar is about 70-90. Your blood sugar can be high because you're stressed or ill, but I felt OK. I can't blame it on cortisol, which was smack in the middle of the normal range. And my A1c, which reflects blood sugar over the past few months, shows that whatever is going on has been happening for a while. My insulin is more than double what it should be. Oddly, my triglycerides, which typically indicate carb consumption, were good.

I don't have an explanation for the triglycerides. |
I should have suspected something was wrong, though. I've felt very tired and a little sad for the past few months. Unlike many people with higher than ideal blood sugar and insulin, I had only gained about three pounds.
Regardless of my good weight and triglycerides, I know I've had carb creep. In shock from my other test results, I immediately stopped snacking on chocolate at work. Knowing that dairy can raise insulin in some people, I cut back my yogurt and cream cheese consumption by half. That's it--I didn't change my activity level, sleep, or anything else.
Within a few days, I felt more energetic and in a better mood. I'm down four pounds (all of it off my waist). I don't have a glucose meter, but I suspect my blood sugar has improved. I feel lousy when my blood sugar is off. Previously, I was horse-whipped with acid reflux when I overate carbohydrates, but taking a B. coagulans pill (Doctor's Best Digestive Health Probiotics, Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856, 2 billion CFUs) every night seems to have gotten rid of it. My vision is clearer, too--I transcribed the B. coagulans info from the bottle without my reading glasses.
I'll re-test in a few months.
