It's been over a year and a half since I turned 50 and got serious about solving some health problems. My stomach felt off, I was gaining weight, getting tired, having trouble concentrating, and some cavities were emerging.
My visit to the dentist today found my teeth in much better shape. I skipped my spring appointment since I was sick, and then coughing, for so long. There were a few cavities my dentist was keeping an eye on, but the x-rays apparently didn't show any need for fillings. My dentist was impressed that I was able to get off my thyroid medication; I told her a little about Dr. Davis's program--it's a lot of effort, but well worth it. I told her truthfully that I'd have ended up on disability if I hadn't gotten better.
Incidentally, my dental hygienist and neighbor, who used to comment about my being an older person, has retired--the word they used at the dentist's office. I've got to ask her if she's getting an RV or a walk-in tub the next time I see her.
Since getting over my cold from earlier this year, I've had to blow my nose a lot less than I ever have. Maybe I had a biofilm in my respiratory tract for ages and finally got rid of it.
As I mentioned last time, I'm mowing the lawn in one go. When I moved to Indiana, I could only mow a little at a time even though I have a fairly small lot. Getting a new lawnmower helped, but I still had problems. What might have helped (among other things) was taking lactoferrin. It's like a taxi for your iron, getting it where it needs to go instead of the iron ending up at the doorstep of a biofilm. My TIBC (total iron binding capacity) was at the low end of normal, and Stop the Thyroid Madness said it needed to be higher. I suspect my TIBC is higher now and this is why I'm no longer out of breath.
I'm still doing well without any thyroid medication--and a few weeks ago, I quit wearing my medical alert bracelet that said "low cortisol."
This fall, I'm looking forward to getting the garage finished and doing some more canning--and I'm glad to have the energy to get it done.
